![]() Now that I think about it, Bitwig's business model is actually very clever and probably benefits both them and their customers. One more question, does Bitwig's discounted upgrade plan only apply if you renew your subscription immediately as soon as your previous one runs out, or can there be gaps in between (for example, until a compelling enough update is released)? Wouldn't it be better to just call it "Bitwig" (without the number) and just keep updates trickling in incrementally? Because, from many users' perspective, paying $179 for a period of 12 months where a major update takes place is much better value than a period of 12 months without any major releases. A 12 month subscription for $179 makes an implied promise that some jaw-dropping, game-changing sh*t is guaranteed to happen in the course of those 12 months, else why would anyone want to upgrade? The funny thing is they also have major version updates-Bitwig 2, Bitwig 3, etc. Honestly, Bitwig is a great DAW, but is it worth the asking price? Bitwig has set the bar pretty high for themselves IMO. I'm considering Bitwig but the price seems slightly ambitious, what's the word?Īll three products listed cost about the same for new users, and all products offer discounted upgrade plans for existing customers (the discount for Ableton seems to be calculated on a user-by-user basis so I don't have an exact figure). It’s also relevant that this is an internal vocoder, because it can then take advantage of integration with Bitwig’s own routing for modulation, audio, and pitch – the thing that tends to make using plug-in vocoders annoying. It’s 3.1.1 we’re talking about, hot on the heels of microtuning-enabled, enhanced version 3.1 which just came out of beta.
